PhD scholarship: PhD Collective negotiations in sovereign default and corporate insolvency   Description The Faculty of Law and Criminology , Department Interdisciplinary Study of Law (JURI) , is looking for a PhD-student with a doctoral grant. More concretely your work package, for the preparation of a doctorate, contains: Our team is looking for a doctoral student (bursary position) for the project ‘Collective negotiations in sovereign default and corporate insolvency (1890- 1920)’. At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, crises caused by defaulting states were discussed in committees of bondholders. These committees coordinated the negotiations and defended the interests of individual bondholders. The candidate will conduct research in archives. PhD-candidates Louis Debersaques, Antoine Leclère and Rodrick Van der Smissen will participate in a workshop for doctoral researchers on 14 November . Prof. Frederik Dhondt will take part in a panel debate on 15 November .

  (image source: candidate) Drs.  Cornelis Marinus (Marco) in 't Veld  will defend his PhD Dissertation in law entitled  Commerce and Customs in the Courts: A Comparison Between Mercantile Customs, Jurisdictions and Institutions in Amsterdam and Lyon During the Early 18th Century  (supervisor: Prof. dr.  Dave De ruysscher ). Drs. in 't Veld studied Law (Erasmus University Rotterdam) and was active as PhD-researcher on the  FWO Fundamental Research Project   Cataloguing Customs of Trade: Looking Behind the Labels (Amsterdam and Lyon, 1700-1730)  at our research centre.
