(image source: Brill ) First paragraph: La seconde monographie d’Isaac Nakhimovsky, professeur associé au département d’histoire à Yale, était très attendue. Il faut rappeler que sa thèse de doctorat effectuée à l’Université de Harvard (2008) avait été publié en 2011 sous le titre The Closed Commercial State: Perpetual Peace and Commercial Society from Rousseau to Fichte. Cette étude d’histoire de la pensée politique s’inscrivait dans les pas de l’école de Cambridge où Nakhimovsky séjourna pendant six années en tant que Research Fellow (2008-2014).     (image source:  Maklu ) Prof. Frederik Dhondt reviewed the book Elise Reszöhazy, Dimitri Roden, Stanislas Horvat & Dirk Luyten De laatste 242: de terechtstelling van collaborateurs na de Tweede Wereldoorlog, which treats the execution of death sentences for those convicted of collaboration with the Nazi occupant.  More information  here .

  (image source: AUP ) First paragraph: Deze heel verzorgde derde bundel over de correspondentie van Johan de Witt brengt 26 ‘schatten uit het Nationaal Archief’ uit het Rampjaar (1672), voorzien van context door bijna dertig auteurs (p. 7). Een afbeelding van de recto- of versozijde van de originele brief (of een pagina voor de gedrukte stukken) wordt gekoppeld aan een transcriptie en een hertaling. Prachtige portretten en tekeningen brengen de lezer oog in oog met de dochter van Hugo de Groot of Willem III’s gouverneur Frederik van Nassau-Zuylestein. Het geheel wordt ingeleid met een chronologisch overzicht vanaf het begin van het Rampjaar tot aan de publieke lynchpartij waarmee Johan en Cornelis de Witt in Den Haag aan hun einde komen (p. 15-28). De eerder verhalende bijdragen bevatten geen klassiek regest, maar wel annotaties van de transcripties, met biografische woordenboeken en eigentijdse bronnen, evengoed als oudere en recentere historiografie.   (image source: De Gruyter ) Prof. Frederik Dhondt wrote a review for the  Zeitschrift der Savigny-Stiftung für Rechtsgeschichte - Kanonistische Abteilung on the 6th volume of the series Der Einfluss der Kanonistik auf die europäische Rechtskultur . First sentences: The series „Einfluss der Kanonistik auf die europäische Rechtskultur“, of which the present volume is the sixth and final, aims to demonstrate how canon law (and theology) have influenced not only norms and rules, but also the legal culture of practitioners and theorists of law in Europe. Nearly all manuals of the history of international law devote considerable attention to the contribution of theology to the jus ad bellum, but this approach is mostly constructed outside-in.
