Rodrick Van Der Smissen



Rodrick Van Der Smissen obtained his Master of Laws from the Free University of Brussels (2022, cum laude). To broaden his scope within the field of legal history, he continues to study an abridged Bachelor’s in History (specialization in Antiquity) at the Catholic University Leuven.

During his law studies, Rodrick participated in an academic reading group founded by doctoral students of the Law and Criminology Faculty. Afterwards, he became a “research student” within the research group “Contextual Research in Law” (CORE).

 

His research interests entail public law, legal history, Roman and 19th Century law. On the subject of his Master’s thesis, he focused on: “The influence of the Roman Republic on the Consulate in France”. As a PhD-student, Rodrick will prepare a dissertation on 19th Century insolvency law.


Rodrick is currently teaching assistent for the courses Historische en Vergelijkende Inleiding tot het Publiekrecht and Politieke Geschiedenis van België
