Léna Sylvestre

After a Bachelor's degree, validated in 2019, and a Master's degree, validated in 2021, in History, International Relations and Social Sciences at the University Paul Valéry in Montpellier, I have just started since October a PhD in History of Law at the University of Cergy-Pontoise and at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel under the direction of Professor C. Argyriadis-Kervegan and Professor F. Dhondt.

My thesis is a continuation of my Master's thesis, "The use of official languages in the General Assembly and the Security Council of the International Organization of the United Nations. Illustration of the geopolitical context of the Cold War" and "The role of the United Nations in the Cold War. Illustrated by the presence of the English, Russian and Chinese languages in the General Assembly and the Security Council". The latter deals with "The language regime of the United Nations: a historical study of multilingualism, caught between state interests and the desire for affirmation". The aim here is to study the geopolitical, but also legal and linguistic stakes of the establishment and evolution of UN multilingualism.
