In the Academic Year 2021-22, the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel launched a scheme whereby talented Master students are offered the opportunity to work for two consecutive academic years within a research group, under the guidance of a supervisor. The Faculty's Research Director, Prof. Dave De ruysscher, coordinates the scheme.

In 2022-2023, Senne De Kerpel and Max Van den Bosch were selected on Prof. Frederik Dhondt's project "Belgian Constitutional Law in the Belle Époque (1870-1914)". Student-researchers can develop their own independent research profile, and are closely associated to the "backoffice" of research (data collection, data management, debate on sources, editorial choices in academic writing, peer review cycle, networking, conferences...), with a regular, weekly activity. More information on both students can be found on their pages.

This scheme is complementary to the pre-existing voluntary "Research Students"-pool.
