The Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) published the outcome of its 2024 call for Senior Fundamental Research Projects.

Prof. Dave De ruysscher obtained two four year research grants (2025-2028):

  • Collective Bargaining in State Bankruptcies and Corporate Insolvencies (1890–1920) (G0A3025N)
    (co-supervisor: Prof. Frederik Dhondt)
  • Cities as Breeding Grounds: Legal Change in Financial Law (c. 1620–c. 1750) (G0ACT25N)
    (co-supervisors: Prof. Luisa Brunori/ENS Paris and Prof. Stefania Gialdroni (Padova))

Ook onze veiligheidscultuur is door en door gesteld op efficiëntie. En waarom ook niet? We willen immers dat criminaliteit kordaat en efficiënt wordt aangepakt. Echter, het is de vraag welke tijdsbeleving daarmee op de achtergrond verdwijnt en wat dat doet met mensen die met het strafrecht in aanraking komen. De nutteloze noodzaak van het recht neemt de lezer mee op een avontuurlijke reis door het denken over veiligheid, terrorisme en mensenrechten.   The European Research Council awarded Prof. Frederik Dhondt with a prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant for the proposal TREATYLAB (“The Labyrinth of Treaties, 1712-1763”. International Law Behind the Scenes of Early Enlightenment Diplomacy"). Proposal abstract: The past of international law (the law produced and applicable between polities) is studied from various disciplinary perspectives. Our scholarly image prior to 1870 mainly rests on accounts of philosophy and theory, or the published final product of negotiations, treaties. This image ought to be corrected. International law is continuously produced and interpreted by the actors. The advisory work of Nicolas-Louis Le Dran (1687-1774), top civil servant in the forerunner of the French Foreign Ministry (bureaux des affaires étrangères) contains hundreds of substantial works drawn up on the basis of diplomatic correspondence and treaties, but also doctrine.
