CORE Weekly Gatherings (21 - 28 Nov/5 Dec)

Our group has the habit of meetings every Tuesday over lunch (12:30-14:00). This slot is either used for lunch properly, or for informal presentations of work-in-progress.

Three moments are currently foreseen:

- 21 Nov: Prof. Frederik Dhondt & dr. Stefano Cattelan: the Ostend Company and the 18thC law of nations
- 28 Nov: dra. Léna Sylvestre (CY Paris/VUB): multilingualism and the United Nations from an historical perspective
- 5 Dec: drs. Antoine Leclère (FRNS/ULiège; voluntary associate CORE): constitution and revolution in the late 18th century

This symposium takes place within the framework of FWO Junior Fundamental Research Project G016122N: In the Shadow of the Great Powers. Neutrality and the Law of the Sea in the Long Eighteenth Century (2024-2026). Confirmed keynote speakers are prof. Silvia Marzagalli (Nice) and prof. Eric Schnakenbourg (Nantes). (image source: University of the Underground ) Prof. Laurent De Sutter organises the CORE Seminar in Legal Theory. For the next session, Michele Spanò will be our guest. On the speaker: Michele Spano is Associate Professor of Law at Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris). He is interested in the ways in which law deals with collective entities. His researches focus on class action lawsuits and consider, both historically and theoretically, how the logical and practical hegemony of individualism in private law is being reframed and contested through and by the emergence of common or collective actors, interests, goods and rights. His most recent book is Fare il molteplice. Il diritto privato alla prova del comune (Rosenberg & Sellier, 2022).
